AUTOBIOGRAPHY
The field of dentistry has brought many changes to my life. I have studied the field for over ten years, giving me a joy of enlightenment and a strong sense of responsibility as a dental hygienist. I acquired extensive experience and skills working as a dental hygienist in South Korea and continued in the same field even after immigrating to Canada.
I believe that once you stop learning, you are giving up on your potential. Those who continue to study and harness their skills will stand out once the opportunity arises. With this understanding, I have continued and pursued my study in Canada.
I obtained the Certified Dental Assistant License in 2014 (National Dental Assisting Examining Board, Canada) and have worked as a dental assistant in various dental clinics; Churchill Dental Clinic in Churchill, MB, Springfield Dental Clinic in OakBank, MB, Serenity Dental Clinic in Winnipeg, MB. In addition, I provided office assistance as a volunteer worker at Health Science Center Dental Clinic and other places to acclimate myself to work environment in Canada while performing community-related services. I aim to continue to work as a dental hygienist in Canada and conduct oral health research on people from a disadvantaged background; an area that I have been passionate about for a long time.
In 2016, when refugee problems were gaining attention in the public, I had a chance to help refugees. I participated as a dental assistant for the "Open Wide" dental volunteer service for the refugees at the University of Manitoba. It was a valuable experience for me as it gave me the opportunity to help the refugees with my skills. Moreover, seeing the dedication and professionalism of Canadian dental hygienist, I decided to continue my study to fulfill my dream: becoming a dental hygienist.
In addition, as part of my continuing education plan, I have attended seminars, conferences and participated in training sessions to prepare for new, emerging technologies in the oral health industry. I am very grateful to pursue my dream at the University of Manitoba, School of Dental Hygiene. Now, I am looking forward to and excited for my future in the dental field as an oral health professional.
