My First Reflection
In 2020, the history of dental hygienist has been over 106 years and dental hygienist has been considered a professional.[1]
While I was volunteering and working as a dental assistant, I have seen in a dental clinic that most patients genuinely follow dental hygienists’ instructions with their trust. From this observation, I analyzed that patient’s compliance on dental hygienists’ treatment have been yielded by dental hygienists’ professionalism and it might have been accumulated in the past 106 years.
Entry to practice competencies and standards for Canadian dental hygienists are identified in dental hygiene services and it describes core abilities for dental hygiene practice.[2]
Throughout the dental hygiene program, I have learned these dental hygiene competencies and now I can see how much I have grown compared to my first year at school. In that sense, Canadian dental hygiene competencies and standards aligned with my first reflection on dental hygiene which I have believed ‘what oral health expert should be’.
